Featured picture candidates Featured picture candidates are images that the community will vote on, to determine whether or not they will be highlighted as some of the finest on Commons. This page lists the candidates to become featured pictures. The picture of the day images are selected from featured pictures. Old candidates for Featured pictures are listed here. There are also chronological lists of featured pictures: 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and current month. Formal thingsNominatingGuidelines for nominatorsPlease read the complete guidelines before nominating. This is a summary of what to look for when submitting and reviewing FP candidates:
Artworks, illustrations, and historical documentsThere are many different types of non-photographic media, including engravings, watercolors, paintings, etchings, and various others. Hence, it is difficult to set hard-and-fast guidelines. However, generally speaking, works can be divided into three types: Those that can be scanned, those that must be photographed, and those specifically created to illustrate a subject. Works that must be photographed include most paintings, sculptures, works too delicate or too unique to allow them to be put on a scanner, and so on. For these, the requirements for photography, below, may be mostly followed; however, it should be noted that photographs which cut off part of the original painting are generally not considered featurable. Works that may be scanned include most works created by processes that allow for mass distribution − for instance, illustrations published with novels. For these, it is generally accepted that a certain amount of extra manipulation is permissible to remove flaws inherent to one copy of the work, since the particular copy – of which hundreds, or even thousands of copies also exist – is not so important as the work itself. Works created to serve a purpose include diagrams, scientific illustrations, and demonstrations of contemporary artistic styles. For these, the main requirement is that they serve their purpose well. Provided the reproduction is of high quality, an artwork generally only needs one of the following four things to be featurable:
Digital restorations must also be well documented. An unedited version of the image should be uploaded locally, when possible, and cross-linked from the file description page. Edit notes should be specified in detail, such as "Rotated and cropped. Dirt, scratches, and stains removed. Histogram adjusted and colors balanced." PhotographsOn the technical side, we have focus, exposure, composition, movement control and depth of field.
On the graphic elements we have shape, volume, color, texture, perspective, balance, proportion, noise, etc.
You will maximise the chances of your nominations succeeding if you read the complete guidelines before nominating. Video and audioPlease nominate videos, sounds, music, etc. at Commons:Featured media candidates. Set nominationsIf a group of images are thematically connected in a direct and obvious way, they can be nominated together as a set. A set should fall under one of the following types:
Simple tutorial for new usersAdding a new nominationIf you believe that you have found or created an image that could be considered valuable, with appropriate image description and licensing, then do the following. Step 1: copy the image name into this box, after the text already present in the box, for example, Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Your image filename.jpg. Then click on the "create new nomination" button. All single files: For renominations, simply add /2 after the filename. For example, Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Foo.jpg/2
All set nomination pages should begin "Commons:Featured picture candidates/Set/", e.g. "Commons:Featured picture candidates/Set/My Nomination".
Step 3: manually insert a link to the created page at the top of Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list: Click here, and add the following line to the TOP of the nominations list:
Galleries and FP categories: Please add a gallery page and section heading from the list at Commons FP galleries. Write the code as Page name#Section heading. For example: Optional: if you are not the creator of the image, please notify them using Note: Do not add an 'Alternative' image when you create a nomination. Selecting the best image is part of the nomination process. Alternatives are for a different crop or post-processing of the original image, or a closely related image from the same photo session (limited to 1 per nomination), if they are suggested by voters. VotingEditors whose accounts have at least 10 days and 50 edits can vote. Everybody can vote for their own nominations. Anonymous (IP) votes are not allowed. You may use the following templates:
You may indicate that the image has no chance of success with the template reason - ~~~~, where reason explains why the image is clearly unacceptable as a FP. The template can only be used when there are no support votes other than the one from the nominator. A well-written review helps participants (photographers, nominators and reviewers) improve their skills by providing insight into the strengths and weaknesses of a picture. Explain your reasoning, especially when opposing a candidate (which has been carefully selected by the author/nominator). English is the most widely understood language on Commons, but any language may be used in your review. A helpful review will often reference one or more of the criteria listed above. Unhelpful reasons for opposing include:
Remember also to put your signature (~~~~). Featured picture delisting candidatesOver time, featured picture standards change. It may be decided that for some pictures which were formerly "good enough", this is no longer the case. This is for listing an image which you believe no longer deserves to be a featured picture. For these, vote:
This can also be used for cases in which a previous version of an image was promoted to FP, but a newer version of the image has been made and is believed to be superior to the old version, e.g. a newly edited version of a photo or a new scan of a historical image. In particular, it is not intended for replacing older photos of a particular subject with newer photos of the same subject, or in any other case where the current FP and the proposed replacement are essentially different images. For these nominations, vote:
If you believe that some picture no longer meets the criteria for FP, you can nominate it for delisting, copying the image name into this box, after the text already present in the box: In the new delisting nomination page just created you should include:
After that, you have to manually insert a link to the created page at the top of Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list. As a courtesy, leave an informative note on the talk page(s) of the original creator, uploader(s), and nominator with a link to the delisting candidate. can be used for this purpose. Featured picture candidate policyGeneral rules
Featuring and delisting rulesA candidate will become a featured picture in compliance with following conditions:
The delisting rules are the same as those for FPs, with voting taking place over the same time period. The rule of the 5th day is applied to delisting candidates that have received no votes to delist, other than that of the proposer, by day 5. The FPCBot handles the vote counting and closing in most cases, current exceptions are candidates containing multiple versions of the image as well as FPXed and withdrawn nominations. Any experienced user may close the requests not handled by the bot. For instructions on how to close nominations, see Commons:Featured picture candidates/What to do after voting is finished. Also note that there is a manual review stage between when the bot has counted the votes and before the nomination is finally closed by the bot; this manual review can be done by any user familiar with the voting rules. Above all, be politePlease don't forget that the image you are judging is somebody's work. Avoid using phrases like "it looks terrible" and "I hate it". If you must oppose, please do so with consideration. Also remember that your command of English might not be the same as someone else's. Choose your words with care. Happy judging… and remember… all rules can be broken. See also

- Support This one is certainly a matter of taste. I liked the little confusion created by the plants growing inside of the window while we are looking out, I love the contrast between the pretty curves of the hop vines and the (almost) rectangular window, and the image gives a friendly, but consistent impression of rural decay. -- Aristeas (talk) 09:32, 13 November 2024 (UTC)

- Info Front view of a female boxfish (Ostracion cyanurus), Ad Dimaniyat Islands, Oman. Ostracion cyanurus has a maximum published total length of 15 centimetres (5.9 in) and is found in the Western Indian Ocean where it occurs in the Red Sea and around the Arabian Peninsula into the Persian Gulf as far east as eastern Iran. This species is found in areas where there is a moderate growth of coral at depths between 5 and 50 metres (16 and 164 ft). Ostracion cyanurus is a solitary species which remains in the vicinity of shelter. The apparent lack of smaller males may mean that this species is protogynous (sequential hermaphroditism). If the bluetail trunkfish senses danger is releases a toxin called pahutoxin, or ostracotoxin, into the water as a defence. c/u/n by Poco a poco (talk) 20:59, 11 November 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose Not aligned with the criterias for a set. You could go on and add 10 more Poco a poco (talk) 18:24, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- According to FPC rules, sets can be used to showcase "a sequence of images showing the passage of time. They could depict frames of a moving/changing object or a static object during different times of day or different seasons. Examples: diagrams illustrating a process, steps of a dance, metamorphosis of an insect, maps/drawings/photos of the same subject over the years (frame of view should be more or less the same)".
- These pictures are litterally steps of a dance all part of the courtship display of the greater flamingo. The courtship display moves are not infinite. A good proportion of the courtship display steps are included in this one so "adding 10 more" wouldn't be possible. -- Giles Laurent (talk) 18:32, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- There seems to be many hours between images 1 and 2. Giles, I don't think that's what 'the passage of time' is meant to mean. There are a large number of elements of courtship display.Charlesjsharp (talk) 21:50, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- The FPC rules explicitely say that it could be different times of the day. So the picture number 2 is perfectly adequate. Also, I could have chosen this image as image number 2 but I prefer the actual one because you better see the movement being done with the feets splashing the water. This is wildlife and not human choreography. The animals do their courtship display and you can't ask them to do it just for the camera. Since they are often packed you will many times find yourself having other distracting flamingos in front of the one doing one of the steps of the courtship display. So waiting to have one subject isolated enough from the others to have a perfect capture of the courtship display step needs some time that can't be avoided.
- According to your article there are 11 courtship display moves. According to the information displayed on big signs in the Camargue there are less moves. In any case the moves that I posted on this set are the main ones that you will see. If you really want to see the preening you can see it here but I won't add it as it's less representative of the courtship display. -- Giles Laurent (talk) 22:06, 11 November 2024 (UTC)

- Comment Several pictures could become FP, but I also don't think this selection meets the criteria of a set. The compositions are too different from each other. Some birds are alone while others are in group. The "passage of time" is not explicit. Moreover, the bird in "Pointing head to the sky and spreading wings" has the feet cropped out, while in a set all the pictures should be FP-level. I would recommend to renominate some images separately -- Basile Morin (talk) 01:16, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your comment Basile. Eventhough the usual set nomination we see on FPC has similar composition across the images, FPC rules never asked for it. All the image needs is to fulfill two conditions : 1) "group of images that are thematically connected in a direct and obvious way, they can be nominated together as a set" ; 2) fall into at least one of the following types : a) Faithful digital reproductions of works notable in their own right, which the original author clearly intended to be viewed as a set ; b) a sequence of images showing the passage of time. They could depict frames of a moving/changing object or a static object during different times of day or different seasons. ; c) A group of images depicting the same subject from different viewpoints, preferably taken under the same lighting conditions when possible ; d) A group of images which show all possible variations of a particular class of object.
- In this case the thematical connection is obvious : it's the courtship display. As for the categories it can fall both in category b) and d). None of the above rules explicitely require to have the exact same composition on each image. On the opposite, for all categories it is possible to imagine different compositions across the images. I also personnaly think it's more interesting in a case like this one to have different compositions to have more diversity.
- As for the birds, they were all photographed while being in a group. I just waited patiently the perfect moment to have subjects a bit on the edge of the group in order to have an unobstructed view without disturbing elements in the middle of the frame.
- As for this picture having cropped feet I understand it would have been preferable to have uncropped feet but the movement is so quick (1 to 2 seconds) and you're often looking at something else that the time needed to point at the right direction don't always let enough time to zoom out. I also feel that the perfectly centered flamingo has a wow effect that overweights the cropped feet. Anyway, if you think it's a better one, I just removed that picture and replaced it with this one that has uncropped feet -- Giles Laurent (talk) 01:46, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
Alternative
-
Turning head left and right every 1 to 2 seconds while singing (mostly with closed beak) and staying static
-
Walking all together as a group in the same direction while turning head left and right every 1 to 2 seconds while singing (mostly with closed beak)
-
Pointing head to the sky and spreading wings
-
Kissing
-
Mix of different moves: singing while turning their head from left to right + pointing head to the sky and spreading wings + a kiss
- Info Here's an alternative version with similar composition across the images, all photographed at the same place in a small 30 minutes window. -- Giles Laurent (talk) 13:09, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose Sorry, Giles. Again, I'm sorry, but this is randomed and not valid as a set. Yes, the kissing one is great it would be a solid FP to me but not this Poco a poco (talk) 18:55, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- There is absolutely nothing random in this set. These are all the most common courtship display moves that can be seen every time during the courtship display. Also, as already explained on my comments above, there is nothing invalid with this set. -- Giles Laurent (talk) 19:09, 13 November 2024 (UTC)

- Info Interior view of the main domes of the Blue Mosque, Istanbul, Turkey. The officially known as Sultan Ahmed Mosque is one of the most iconic and popular monuments of Ottoman architecture. It was constructed between 1609 and 1617 during the rule of Ahmed I and remains a functioning mosque today. It is decorated with thousands of Iznik tiles and painted floral motifs in predominantly blue colours, which give the mosque its popular name. The Blue Mosque, included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 1985, was built next to the former Hippodrome and stands across from the Hagia Sophia, another popular tourist site. c/u/n by Poco a poco (talk) 15:29, 10 November 2024 (UTC)

- Weak support Beautiful bird but we have seen sharper ones presented at FPC recently. However, I think it has a good claim to be our best photo of this species. JJ Harrison has a photo of the same bird but it would need a bit of work to become FP. Cmao20 (talk) 16:08, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- John Harrison's image from 11 years ago is better, even without the benefits of today's processing software. Charlesjsharp (talk) 16:36, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- Charlesjsharp, yes this is the picture I meant, I think it's very good but I think it needs some work around the beak to really be suitable for FP, it looks like some selective denoising has taken place but it has left a rough transition. Cmao20 (talk) 18:51, 10 November 2024 (UTC)

- Support Satisfying composition, well framed, and the patterns in the pavement are cool. The grey-blue light wouldn't normally work but for greyish stone architecture I think it actually works quite well. Cmao20 (talk) 15:20, 9 November 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose I concur Poco a poco (talk) 12:46, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- This is how the bare sunlight, obscured by fog and cloud, looks to the naked eye. The highlights, tone mapping and colors look natural to me. In fact, I suspect the colors might be a little oversaturated with this profile. The sky turned white, but I just checked and there is nothing to recover there, a big bright sunspot under fog covering most of the sky and only some irregular circular side patterns on the left, seemingly not coming from any cloud structure. It’s just dense, shadeless, formless cloud fog lit with diffuse sunlight in the valley behind the wall, with nothing to recover or reveal. --Argenberg (talk) 19:00, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Comment Thank you Cmao20 for cross-referencing it to another entry. What I like about this picture is its mood and contemplative atmosphere. The other one is flashy, good for a quick glance or two. But this one is different and seems to captivate more if you take time. But it only works in dim environments. I looked at it again tonight, when everything around was dark and silent, and it again took me back to that late evening, lonely glacial cirque, with the sun fading and everything around rapidly getting darker and colder. With all the rocks and sediments of ancient geology, piled and scattered, huge and small, exposed and submerged, testimony to eons of erosion, weathering and terraforming, and the evening lake with its reflections on the surface, and the silence. I actually prefer this to the other for its soothing, meditative effect. Eye candy is one thing, soul is another. Maybe it's like introversion vs. extrospection. --Argenberg (talk) 19:00, 9 November 2024 (UTC)

- Note: You write under this photo (nothing special). I think this is an assumption. It should be: (I find nothing special about this photo). Another voter may look at this photo very differently. When I look at the photo, I see an economically written-off object that has been embraced by nature over the years. It has become one with the environment. The earth colours merge seamlessly into each other. Art and nature have met each other by chance here. How beautiful can it be?--Famberhorst (talk) 17:45, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- All reviews are subjective -- Basile Morin (talk) 01:00, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- I disagree with you. If a photo is clearly out of focus, then that is the case, because everyone can see that. If you find the photo (Nothing special), then that only applies to you and there may be other opinions about it. Then I think you should mention that it is (your opinion). Otherwise you are doing the photographer an injustice.--Famberhorst (talk) 05:34, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- "Out of focus" is a subjective opinion too. We all are individuals. Each person shares subjective reviews. Some people write "no wow", some people write "too ordinary", some people write "I miss something", etc. To help the photographers to face negative feelings, we usually write "sorry" as a courtesy formula. Here the subject looks like a standard pipe. These conventional objects are not rare in the countrysides of the world. The dead branches are not spectacular either. They make the composition cluttered. And I think the top-down view is not uncommon, sorry -- Basile Morin (talk) 07:43, 10 November 2024 (UTC)

- Question Somehow the asymmetric left/right crop bothers me because the church is quite symmetric. It’s clear that you do not want to crop the candelabrum at the right. Any chance to add a little more space at the left to achieve symmetry? Just asking, – Aristeas (talk) 10:03, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Comment The sunspot is fine for me, but I fully agree with Aristeas's point. This is an image that demands symmetry and it just isn't satisfying at the moment. Cmao20 (talk) 02:30, 8 November 2024 (UTC)
- Comment Thanks Aristeas and Cmao20 for the suggestion. I tried to give a little more space at left to achieve symmetry. Please take a look. Greetings --Dirtsc (talk) 17:32, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Comment Personally, I find this a little unfortunate because a chandelier is now cut off on the left and disturbs the picture. Certainly a question of taste and a consideration that is debatable. But I don't know if it's a good idea to change the picture after it's already been voted on - my pro referred to the version that was put to the vote at the time. I still like the picture but changed to neutral --Superbass (talk) 09:18, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- CommentSuperbass describes exactly my problems. Now there is a cutoff at left and (and this is my problem I can't solve) I uploaded a new version in the middle of this voting. How can we handle this? How was this handled with other images? Switch back to the previous version? Greetings --Dirtsc (talk) 10:05, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- CommentI'm not that experienced either, but here is an example of a vote with an alternative version that was added. --Superbass (talk) 19:50, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Comment The best way to proceed depends on the importance of the changes to the image.
- If one changes an image during the process of voting and the changes are very minor and uncontroversial (e.g., some dust spots have been fixed), we usually add a simple comment to the nomination saying that this or that has been fixed.
- If the changes are of intermediate importance, e.g. when the crop has been changed a little bit (like in this example) or when the exposure has been changed to a small degree, we usually add a comment and ping all previous voters to inform them about the change (the Ping template is useful for that purpose).
- If the changes are more important, e.g. when there has been a big change of the crop or a new development from the raw image file, or when one wants to propose a different exposure from the same photo session, it is advisable to upload that new version as a new file (under a new filename) and to add it to the nomination as an ‘Alternative’ image (see the “Formal things” box at the head of this page).
- If one wants to propose a completely different photo (even of the same subject), a separate nomination is necesssary.
- Hope this helps, – Aristeas (talk) 16:03, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you. So I'd suggest, @Dirtsc uses the version he/she prefers and briefly notifies those who voted while another version was visible. So far, no one seems to be taking the change as an opportunity to vote pro instead of con or vice versa. Superbass (talk) 17:02, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

- Support Sorry, my question about the possibility to improve the symmetry was not meant to spoil the nomination; it was just a question or suggestion. Personally I would still be happier about this photo of a very symmetric interior if the photo was completely symmetric, too (by the way, this is not my hobby horse, but a common idea often expressed on this page). But I agree that the photo is also attractive as it is, especially, as Moroder has rightly emphasized, the light spot brings some magic into the scene. – Aristeas (talk) 16:08, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose Per Ermell, the sun spot doesn't bring magic to this scene in my opinion. (and by the way, horizontal PC would be welcome, horizontal lines aren't parallel and I think they should in a symetric composition) --Benji 22:46, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

- Comment Two pictures taken one day apart... Till (talk) 12:10, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- Comment I don't like this camera model card pulled here in Featured Pictures. It doesn't make sense. It encourages contributors to submit images of worse quality and remove EXIF. As long as photographer submits 18 Mpix photos from their Canon 60D, the images are ok, Featured worthy. God forbid the photographer uses the same lens in Canon 5Ds. Submitting full resolution 51 Mpix? Quality is bad, can't be Featured. Decreasing resolution to 30 Mpix to compensate average lens quality? You shouldn't decrease resolution, can't be Featured. Cropping a subject from a 51 Mpix image to create an 18 Mpix photo, because photographer can afford only one lens? It can't be Featured, because your camera is capable of 51 Mpix.--Tupungato (talk) 14:22, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- Comment Tupungato has a point here. I would always encourage fellow photographers to upload their photos in full resolution, but to be just we must judge high-resolution photos a bit differently. People sometimes think that taking photos with the newest cameras is much easier because the AF is so much better; but AF is not everything, actually it’s much more difficult to take pin-point sharp photos with today’s high-resolution cameras, especially when we talk about landscape or architecture photos where every detail matters. Lenses which appeared flawless on 12 or even 24 MPix cameras reveal significant aberrations and unsharp borders on 42, 50 or 62 Mpix cameras, also because the latter often drop the traditional on-sensor anti-alias filter which used to hide many fine details and defects; focussing needs more care, because even the slightest field curvature will visibly influence the final results; stopping down to ƒ/11 etc. becomes problematic because diffraction shows its effect very early. A practical solution, proposed by various users, is that we judge low-resolution or downscaled photos rather strictly (if somebody provides only about 6 Mpix, these 6 Mpix should be pin-point sharp and there should be no visible CAs, no noise etc.); be a bit more relaxed with 12 to 24 Mpix photos; and forgive some slight softness, small CAs, a little bit of noise etc. with photos > 36 Mpix. Of course there are exceptions – e.g. difficult wildlife photos often require significant cropping, so we must understand and accept that, too. – Aristeas (talk) 10:45, 6 November 2024 (UTC)

Closing a featured picture promotion request
The bot
Note that the description below is for manual closure, this is mostly not needed anymore as there exists a bot (FPCBot) that counts the votes and handles the process below. However after the bot has counted the votes a manual review step is used to make sure the count is correct before the bot again picks up the work.
Manual procedure
Any experienced user may close requests.
- In Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list click on the title/link of the candidate image, then [edit].
Add the result of the voting at the bottom (on a new line with a space first)
(for example see Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:The Bridge (August 2013).jpg). See also FPC-results-reviewed.
- Also edit the title of the candidate image template and add after the image tag
featured or not featured
For example:
:File:XXXXX.jpg
becomes
=== :File:XXXXX.jpg, featured === - Save your edit.
- If it is featured:
- Add the picture to the list of the four most recently featured pictures of an appropriate gallery of Commons:Featured pictures, list as the first one and delete the last one, so that the number is four again.
- Also add the picture to the appropriate gallery and section of Commons:Featured pictures, list. Click on the most appropriate link beneath where you just added it as one of the four images. An image should only appear ONE time in the galleries. After a successful nomination, the image can be placed in several of the Featured pictures categories.
- Add the template to the image description page.
- If it was an alternative image, use the subpage/com-nom parameter: For example, if File:Foo.jpg was promoted at Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:Bar.jpg, use
- If the image is already featured on another wikipedia, just add featured=1 to the Assessments template. For instance becomes
- Add the picture to the chronological list of featured pictures. Put it in the gallery using this format: File:xxxxx.jpg|# - Headline<br>created by xxxxx, uploaded by xxxxx, nominated by xxxxx
- The # should be replaced by 1 for the first image nominated that month, and counts up after that. Have a look at the other noms on that page for examples.
- You may simplify this if multiple things were done by the same user. E.g.: File:xxxxx.jpg|# - Headline<br>created, uploaded, and nominated by xxxxx
- Add == FP promotion ==
File:XXXXX.jpg to the Talk Page of the nominator.
- As the last step (whether the image is featured or not; including FPXed, FPDed and withdrawn nominations), open Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list, click on [edit], and find the transclusion of the nomination you've just finished closing. It will be of the form:

Copy it to the bottom of Commons:Featured picture candidates/Log/November 2024), save that page, and remove it from the candidate list.
Closing a delisting request
- In Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list click on the title/link of the candidate image, then [edit].
Add the result of the voting at the bottom (on a new line with a space first)
Result: x delist, x keep, x neutral => /not/ delisted. ~~~~
(for example see Commons:Featured picture candidates/removal/Image:Astrolabe-Persian-18C.jpg) - Also edit the title of the delisting candidate image template and add after the image tag
delisted or not delisted
For example:
=== :File:XXXXX.jpg === becomes === :File:XXXXX.jpg, delisted === - Move the actual template from Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list to the bottom of the actual month page on Commons:Featured picture candidates/Log/November 2024.
- If the outcome was not delisted, stop here. If it is delisted:
- Remove the picture from Commons:Featured pictures, list and any subpages.
- Edit the picture's description as follows:
- Replace the template Featured picture on the image description page by Delisted picture. If using the Assessments template, change featured=1 to featured=2 (do not change anything related to its status in other featured picture processes).
- Remove the image from all categories beginning with "Featured [pictures]" (example: Featured night photography, Featured pictures from Wiki Loves Monuments 2016, Featured pictures of Paris).
- Remove the "Commons quality assessment" claim (d:Property:P6731) "Wikimedia Commons featured picture" from the picture's Structured data.
- Add a delisting-comment to the original entry in chronological list of featured pictures in bold-face, e. g. delisted 2007-07-19 (1-6) with (1-6) meaning 1 keep and 6 delist votes (change as appropriate). The picture in the gallery is not removed.
- If this is a Delist and Replace, the delisting and promotion must both be done manually. To do the promotion, follow the steps in the above section. Note that the assessment tag on the file page and the promotion tag on the nominator's talk page won't pick up the /replace subpage that these nominations use.
Manual archiving of a withdrawn nomination
- In Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list click on the title/link of the candidate image, then [edit].
In the occasion that the FPCbot will not mark withdrawn nominations with a "to be reviewed" template and put them in Category:Featured picture candidates awaiting closure review just like if they were on the usual list, put the following "no" template:
- Also edit the title of the candidate image template and add after the image tag
not featured
For example:
:File:XXXXX.jpg
becomes
=== :File:XXXXX.jpg, not featured === - Save your edit.
- Open Commons:Featured picture candidates/candidate list, click on [edit], and find the transclusion of the nomination. It will be of the form:

Copy it to the bottom of Commons:Featured picture candidates/Log/November 2024), save that page, and remove it from the candidate list.
