RAF Ensign

[edit]

I did indeed have a reason for choosing the colours of the RAF Ensign. The reason is Graham Bartram's website. He works for the MOD designing flags and his website is where I got the colours for the RAF Ensign from. See here [1] David Newton 16:03, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

I don't see a problem with the documentary support for this Commons image; nor do I understand how you can construe a problem in a context in which a readily accessible explanation is specific. If I have misunderstood or if I need to re-write a sentence or two in order to withstand close scrutiny, I will do whatever is necessary. However, I repeat -- I do not perceive any reason to edit this page. --Ooperhoofd (talk) 18:03, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Greenshed!

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.

To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.

You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.

The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!

Thank you. BotMultichillT (talk) 06:00, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Greenshed,

We have attempted to contact you regarding Parthenon’s right to use the George V in the uniform of a Marshal of the RAF.jpg as part of our documentary series entitled Mystery Files (and any subsequent reversions) as outlined in our previous emails below.

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:George_V_in_the_uniform_of_a_Marshal_of_the_RAF.jpg

It is imperative that we have authority from the copyright holder for the use of this archive material and in consideration of that authority, we would be able to pay the copyright holder a nominal fee upon signature of a release form.

The transmission of this series is due to commence shortly and I would be most grateful if you could respond to this email as a matter of urgency to enable us to put in place the necessary documentation.

Kind regards

Emily Rudge

[edit]

Dear Greenshed,

It seems that my previous email did not reach you. We were enquiring about that image as we would like to use it within our documnetary. However, the Crown Copyright will not confirm to me that it is under their copyright and says that it may fall under an individual author/photographer or a gallery.

Do you have any idea where you got this image from and who may hold the copyright to this image?

Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

Emily Rudge,

emily.rudge@parthenonentertainment.com

Emily.
I replied to your first question on my Wikipedia talk page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Greenshed). I imagine that the reason why any email you have sent me did not reach me was because I have not made my email address available to you. I do not like to respond to wiki questions using email and prefer to use the wiki where the question was asked.
I believe that the image is Crown Copyright and as it is over 50 years old it may be freely reused. My basis for saying that it is Crown Copyright is given in the image description for http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:George_V_in_the_uniform_of_a_Marshal_of_the_RAF.jpg. This states that "The uncropped photograph was scanned from Finn, C. J. et al (2004). Air Publication 3003. HMSO. The entire publication, including its photographs, was issued under Crown Copyright. Although copyright for the publication is dated at 2004, the Crown Copyright on the photographs starts from the date when they were taken. King George died in 1936 and so this photograph is more than 50 years old, placing it in the public domain." In general you may wish to look at http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikipedia-l/2005-May/022055.html and Commons:Reusing content outside Wikimedia. I hope this helps. Hi Greenshed,

My name is Amber Comerford and I work for Tern Digital in Glasgow. We are currently making an educational installation project about the history of Edinburgh to be housed in the Edinburgh Museum and was hoping to get some information on using your image of the Aberlemno II stone.

I have seen the licence and I believe that says that you created the image- eg took the photograph, but I would like to try and confirm that in writing that you own the copyright for the image and are happy for us to reproduce it in our project.

It would be great if you were happy to drop me an email about this if that was ok, as I would then be able to use is an official record of our conversations. My email address is amber.comerford@terntv.com

Thanks very much for your help, I look forward to hearing from you.

With best wishes,

Amber

Naming

[edit]

re "File:Trenchard in conversation with Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.jpg"

  • At the time of this photo, Elizabeth was no longer known as "Bowes-Lyon". She was known as Queen Elizabeth.
  • It is usual to give the name of the person of highest standing first :Queen Elizabeth and (Officer or Forename) Trenchard. Unless there are numerous figures to be named, and they are lined up for a photo.
  • "In conversation with" is superfluous. If something significant was happening e.g. awarding him an honour, or the location is known, e.g. Wellington Barracks, then it needs a mention.

Would you mind renaming it, and any others that are similar? Amandajm (talk) 00:37, 23 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to rename it then by all means do so. Greenshed (talk) 00:15, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign for User:The Photographer

[edit]

Please excuse me spamming you, which concerns Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign. My contributions cover the architecture and culture of Brazil and Venezuela. I has basic photographic equipment: an old D300 camera and 35mm lens, and it is very expensive for me to acquire this equipment. I has recently taken several images using the technique where multiple frames are stitched together to create a high-resolution panorama. However, many times frustrated with the stitching errors that result from trying to take such photos without a proper panoramic head for his tripod. This special equipment permits the camera to be rotated around the entrance pupil of the lens, and eliminates such errors. Having a panoramic head would greatly increase the potential for The Photographer to create sharp high-resolution images for Commons. In addition, the purchase of a camera with a fisheye lens would enable 180 × 360° panoramas to be taken, which are a great way to explore a scene as though one is really there.

Please see the discussion about the Crowd-funding campaign on User talk:The Photographer#Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign and visit the Generosity Crowd-funding Campaign page to consider donating. Even a modest donation will make a difference if many people contribute. Thanks. --The Photographer 14:01, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
